Today, after a long wait and a great deal of work, our edited volume “Wissenschaft im Widerspruch. Beiträge zu einer Debatte im akademischen Feld” has been published. Together with several members of the graduate network “WOC GradNet” at the University of Bremen, we began more than two years ago to collect ideas on this multifaceted and complex topic.
The book, which we collectively planned, wrote, internally edited and commented on, and finally published together, has been released by Springer in the Contradiction Studies series.
I am directly involved in two contributions: Together with Jonas Trochemowitz, I conducted a German-French discourse comparison on the conception of “science” in anti-genderist movements. We compare how Gender Studies are devalued and instrumentalized to present reactionary and misanthropic interpretations as normal and reasonable.
Together with Lara Herford, Jonas Trochemowitz, and Jendrik Nuske, we jointly wrote a critical field trip report about our excursion to the research vessel MS Wissenschaft. In it, we address, among other things, notions of democracy and authoritarianism as well as endangered science that can be found in the exhibition on board the ship. Concurrent with our field trip, in the spring and summer of 2024, the so-called research funding scandal at the Federal Ministry of Education was in full swing. We take a critical position on this against the backdrop of the exhibition on the topic of academic freedom.
The book with its many highly readable contributions can be downloaded here.
